Mycelium + Timber
A collaborative project with furniture design studio Sebastian Cox which explores the remarkable and ancient material relationship between wood and mycelium (fungus) to biofacture contemporary domestic furniture, developing new applications for previously overlooked and sustainable materials.
Through extensive research Sebastian and Ninela have identified that the mycelium species Fomes formentarius combines well with coppiced hazel and goat willow to create strong, lightweight and entirely compostable forms that can be applied to furniture design.
